Class Councils

Work on the Class council as a general member or appointed cabinet member (Treasurer, secretary, et. al). Contact your President:

Co-Sponsorship

The Engineering Student Council Co-Sponsorship committee, headed by the VP Intergroup, seeks to foster a greater sense of community within the engineering school as well as the Columbia campus as a whole. With equal representation from all class councils, policy representatives, senate and liaison positions, the committee reviews and deliberates on co-sponsorship requests timely and objectively. The committee recommendation is then presented to the entire council to reach a final decision that will fully support student groups and their events financially and logistically.

Student Life Committee

Brainstorm, plan, and execute large-scale events for SEAS, and jointly with the other undergraduate schools for campus-wide events. This is the committee where all of the events and programming go down.

Policy Committee

The Policy Committee consists of the Student Services, Academic Affairs, and Pre-Professional Representatives, a few non-policy specific members, and the Vice President, Internal of the Engineering Student Council. Together we attempt to make Columbia better through the modification of existing University policy to better fit the current desires of Engineering students. Furthermore, we attempt to enact new policy to improve the life of Columbia students in ways not currently available. This year, the vision of the Policy Committee centers around the aggregation of information accessible to students.

Student Services Committee

Student Services deals with a wide range of issues such as Columbia Housing & Dining, Financial Services, Lerner Hall, Libraries, the bookstore and more! Some of the issues Student Services has dealt with in the past include: wireless in Lerner, residence hall smoking policy, Meal Plan changes, swipe access, Flex vending machines, and improving use of lounge space.

The SS Committee meets twice a month on Sunday at 6pm in Lerner Hall's SGO. Any student interested in being involved, learning more about Columbia 's administration and policy, or eager to enact change is welcome to join the committee. Involvement in Student Services depends on the individual- you come and listen to items of student concern, give your opinion on issues, propose issues to be put on the agenda, or be involved with approaching problems directly.

Professional Development Committee

The Professional Development Committee is the contact between the Engineering Student Council (ESC) and the Center for Career Education (CCE) and the Alumni Associations. This committee will work to serve the student body better by strengthening the communication between CCE and the engineering departments, to work to create new events as well as improving the selection, timing and advertising of events to SEAS students. Primary focuses this year include networking with employers, research opportunities and constant student/alumni interaction.

Academic Affairs

The Academic Affairs Committee identifies academic issues facing the SEAS student body and generates solutions to them. Acting as both an advisory panel and an action team, the Committee plans and enacts change in all aspects of academics at Columbia : Grading policy, advising, academic opportunities, and beyond.

Upcoming and present projects include a proposed revamping of the registration site, a series of initiatives to make used and discount textbooks easier to purchase, the introduction of SEAS-specific advisors to FYSAAC and JSAC, and the creation of additional liberal arts minor programs. On top of that, the committee serves as your resource to make improvements on campus in concordance with your vision. Behind the dedication of the Committee's members lies the expertise and resources of the Engineering Student Council, who will help in whatever way is necessary to make your vision a reality.
